Jade Geif Earns Patriot, Navy Honors
Jan. 14, 2014
ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Averages of 19.0 points and 11.0 rebounds a game in victories over Boston U. and Army led to Jade Geif (Sr., Lakeville, Minn.) earning a pair of weekly honors on Monday. She was tabbed as the Anaconda Patriot League Women's Basketball Player of the Week as well as the Navy Athlete of the Week presented by Rolls Royce.
Geif's week began with her notching a double-double of 14 points and 15 rebounds in Navy's 70-50 victory over the Terriers. The 15 boards were a new season high and fell one short of tying her career-best effort, while she shot 5 of 9 from the field on her way to tallying the 14 points.
A few days later, Geif tallied a career-high 24 points to help the Mids to a 74-64 victory over the Black Knights. She would connect on 8 of her 14 field goal attempts as well as all eight of her shots from the free throw line on the afternoon. Geif added seven boards in the game, the last of which being the 900th carom of her career.
This is the first Patriot League weekly honor earned by Geif this season, as well as the fifth of her career. Those five awards ties her with Adria Scheck for the most Patriot League Player-of-the-Week nods earned by a Mid in a career. Additionally, her seven total weekly laurels from the Patriot League (includes a pair of rookie-of-the-week awards) ranks second to Becky Dowling's nine overall honors.
