Jan. 21, 2014
ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Alix Membreno (Sr., Loxahatchee, Fla.) earned a pair of awards this week from the Naval Academy and the Patriot League. The women's basketball standout was tabbed as the both the Anaconda Patriot League Player of the Week as well as the Naval Academy Athletic Association Athlete of the Week as presented by Rolls Royce.
Membreno's week began with her pouring in 34 points and grabbing nine rebounds in Navy's double overtime win at Bucknell. She tied her career high for points -- 22 -- at the end of regulation, then accounted for 12 of Navy's 21 points scored in the two overtime sessions. Her first points of the initial overtime period included the 1,000th point of her career. Additionally, her 34 points broke the Navy record for the most points scored in a Patriot League game and is tied for the sixth-most points tallied by a Mid against any foe.
Her week concluded with a 13-rebound, 6-assist, 4-point performance in a Navy victory over Colgate. The 13 boards were a season high for Membreno and fell just two shy of tying her career-best effort.
She would average 19.0 points, 11.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists in the two games, while shooting 40.7 percent from the floor.
This is the first time Membreno has been selected as the Patriot League Player of the Week.
