Feb. 28, 2012

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. -- Navy women's basketball players Jade Geif (So., Lakeville, Minn.), Alix Membreno (So., Loxahatchee, Fla.) and Audrey Bauer (So., Lake Zurich, Ill.) all garnered postseason accolades from the Patriot League on Tuesday. Both Geif and Membreno received Second-Team All-Patriot League honors, while Bauer was named to the Patriot League All-Academic Team for the sport.

Navy will open defense of its 2011 Patriot League Tournament title Thursday when the Mids play host to Colgate at 7 p.m. in Alumni Hall. Tickets for the quarterfinal round tilt between the No. 3 Mids and the No. 6 Raiders are $6 for adults and $3 for students and senior citizens. Tickets can be purchased in advance of the game either through (click the "Tickets" tab at the top of the page) or by calling the Navy Ticket Office at 1-800-US4-NAVY.

Geif ranks among the league leaders this season in scoring (14th, 10.5 PPG), rebounds (5th, 8.1 RPG), field goal percentage (5th, 50.4%), assists (9th, 2.6 APG) and defensive rebounds (6th, 4.8 RPG). Taking into account just the 14-game Patriot League campaign, Geif ranks 11th in scoring (10.5 PPG), fourth in rebounds (8.0 RPG), second in field goal percentage (50.6%) and is tied for fifth in defensive rebounds (4.7 RPG).

She scored in double figures in 15 games this season and grabbed seven or more caroms in 22 games. Geif scored 10 or more points in 10 of Navy's league games and snared seven or more boards 10 times during the league season. The post player also ranks second on the Navy team in assists with 71 and leads the Mids in helpers during the league season with 37. She has improved upon nearly all of the averages -- scoring, rebounding, field goal percentage, assists, blocks and steals -- she posted last season when she was tabbed as the 2011 Patriot League Rookie of the Year.

Membreno ended the regular season ranked 17th in the league in scoring (9.1 PPG), seventh in rebounding (6.5 RPG), sixth in field goal percentage (44.5%) and tied with Geif for fifth in defensive rebounds (4.7 RPG). Against just league foes, Membreno is tied for 18th in scoring (9.7 PPG) while ranking ninth in rebounds (6.6 RPG) and 10th in field goal percentage (44.8%).

Membreno scored 10 or more points in 10 games this season, with six such performances against league opponents, and grabbed seven or more rebounds 14 times (seven league games). After leading Navy in scoring in just one game last season as a freshman, she has done so nine times this year. She too has seen an increase in nearly all of her statistical averages -- points, rebounds, assists, three-point field goals made -- from a year ago.

Bauer has compiled a 3.46 grade-point average as a political science major at Navy. She has garnered academic honors from the Patriot League at the conclusion of each of her three completed semesters and was named to the 2011 Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.

On the basketball court, Bauer is averaging 10.3 points per game and 4.9 rebounds per game. She also is averaging 9.7 points and 4.9 rebounds a game during the league season. Bauer ranks among the Patriot League leaders in six statistical categories, including a ranking of third with 52 three-point field goals made this year.

Bauer has either led or tied for the Navy lead in points in nine games this year after doing so just once a year ago. She also has scored in double figures 16 times this year after reaching double digits in six games last season as a freshman. More than just a scorer, Bauer has grabbed five or more rebounds in 16 games this year.

To be eligible for the academic awards presented by the league, student-athletes must be at least sophomores at their respective schools with a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 and be starters or key reserves in their sport. Voting by the league's sports information contacts determined both the scholar-athlete of the year and the all-academic team.
