ANNAPOLIS, Md. (March 1) - Navy freshmen Courtney Davidson and Maile Shimoda were both named to the Patriot League's All-Rookie Team, with Davidson also garnering second-team all-league honors, it was announced Thursday by the Patriot League office.
Courtney Davidson
Maile Shimoda
Davidson (Fr., New Oxford, Pa.) is one of just five freshmen in Navy history to score over 300 points in a season (303) and is only the second freshman to lead the Midshipmen in scoring. She scored in double figures in a team-high 17 games this season and was the top scorer for the Mids in a team-high 12 games. Davidson joins Becky Dowling (1995) as the only Navy players to be named to the all-rookie team and garner second-team all-league honors as freshmen.
Shimoda (Fr., Orange, Calif.) scored 10 or more points in 13 games this season, including seven of the last nine, and led Navy with 75 assists. During the Patriot League season, Shimoda led the league with 2.45 three-point field goals made per game, ranked third in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.70) and tied for fourth in assists (3.55 assists per game).
Both Davidson and Shimoda smashed the Navy record for most three-point field goals by a freshman. Shimoda connected on 47 three-point field goals this season, while Davidson drilled 44 of her own, both surpassing the previous school standard of 30.
Navy will open quarterfinal action in the Patriot League Tournament Friday at 3 p.m. when the Mids take on service-academy rival Army in a 3 p.m. game at Alumni Hall on the Naval Academy campus. The game can be heard live on WNAV-AM 1430, as well as www.wnav.com.
