Navy to Face Loyola in Women’s Basketball Tournament
ANNAPOLIS, Md. –– The Navy women’s basketball team will play host to Loyola Monday night at 7 p.m. in the quarterfinal round of the Patriot League Tournament.
Tickets –– $10 for adults, $5 for youths –– can be purchased in advance of the game through the Navy Ticket Office by either calling 1-800-US4-NAVY or by clicking HERE. Additionally, tickets will be on sale at the will call window of the Alumni Hall Box Office during Thursday’s Holy Cross at Navy men’s basketball quarterfinal round game.
The Mids earned the home quarterfinal round game by placing third in the league during the regular season with a 13-5 record. The Greyhounds posted a record of 7-11 to earn the No. 6 seed in the tournament. Loyola and Holy Cross tied for sixth place in the final league standings, but the Greyhounds received the No. 6 seed in tiebreakers.
Navy and Loyola met both at the start and toward the end of the 2018 Patriot League campaign, with the two games having very divergent results. The Mids posted a 73-44 victory in Alumni Hall on Dec. 29 in the league opener and the Greyhounds tallied a 58-40 win in Baltimore last Saturday in what was the penultimate game of the regular season.
This will be the second quarterfinal round pairing of the teams in the five seasons Loyola has been a member of the Patriot League. The Greyhounds recorded a 44-42 win over the Mids in a 2016 game played in Baltimore.
First-round games for the 10-team field begin Saturday with No. 10 Colgate playing at No. 7 Holy Cross and No. 9 Boston U. traveling to play at No. 8 Lafayette.
The winner of the Navy-Loyola game will play the winner of the No. 2 Bucknell vs. Holy Cross / Colgate game on Thursday, March 8. The higher-seeded team in that semifinal round game will play host to the contest.
The championship game of the tournament will be played Sunday, March 11. It too will be played at the home of the higher seeded team appearing in the title tilt.
