Davidson Tabbed Patriot League Player of the Week

Navy's Courtney Davidson, who averaged 24 points and 5.5 rebounds in Navy's two victories last week, was selected as the Patriot League Player of the Week, it was announced Monday by the league office.

Navy closed its regular season last week with a pair of overtime victories in less than 48 hours at Alumni Hall. The Midshipmen defeated Lafayette, 68-66, Thursday night in overtime, then won the Star Game over Army in a dramatic 86-85 triple overtime contest. Navy received the No. 5 seed in this week's Patriot League Tournament by virtue of its 6-8 league record. The Mids will face No. 4 seed Bucknell in the opening round of the tournament Friday at 2:30 p.m. at The Show Place Arena in Upper Marlboro, Md.

Davidson (Jr., New Oxford, Pa.) played 97 of a possible 100 minutes in Navy's two wins last week. She led all players with 25 points and added a career-high tying five assists in 42 minutes of action against the Leopards, then played all 55 minutes in leading the Mids with 23 points against the Black Knights. Davidson also added eight boards and tied a career-high with four steals against Army. She has scored 20 or more points in five-of-seven career games against Army and ranks first in series history with 19 career three-point field goals made, as well as second with 135 career points.

With her final point Saturday against Army, Davidson set a new Navy record for the most points scored in a single season. She has totaled 521 points this year, a mark which surpasses Angela Dobbs' school standard of 520 set during the 1990-91 season.

Davidson also surpassed several other season and career milestones last week ...

* Set a new Navy record for the most Patriot League points scored in both a single season (272) and in a career (652).

* Moved into fifth place in Patriot League history with 167 career three-point field goals made (is in second place at Navy).

* Moved into 19th place in league history with 1,323 career points. She needs three points to move into seventh place in Academy history.

* Tied the Navy record for the most games in a single season with 20 or more points (13), and moved into a third-place tie with 30 20+ scoring games in her career.

* Took over 12th place in Navy history for career blocked shots (15) and career steals (105).

Davidson leads the Midshipmen and is second in the Patriot League with a scoring average of 19.4 points per game. She leads Navy with 56 three-point field goals made (third in the league), while also ranking third on the squad with 126 rebounds and 37 steals, and fourth with 58 assists. Davidson has logged 1,036 minutes of playing time this season, which is 94.1-percent of a possible 1,110 minutes she could have played.
