Navy continues its season Sunday afternoon when the Mids travel to Blacksburg, Va., to face Virginia Tech in a second round WNIT game. Navy (24-9, RPI of 122) rallied from a 10-point fourth quarter deficit to defeat George Washington (RPI: 54), 61-51 in overtime, Friday night in Washington, D.C., in a first round WNIT game. The win, which tied the school record for the most wins in a year, was the first win by Navy in a post-season tournament in program history. It also was the second WNIT win by a Patriot League team.
Virginia Tech Update
Virginia Tech (18-13, RPI of 105) advanced to the second round of the WNIT with a 76-62 victory over Rider Friday night at home. The Hokies, who are competing in the WNIT for a fifth time, tied for 11th place in the ACC with a mark of 4-12
In addition to it being the first in the series between the teams, Sunday’s game also will be the second of the season and sixth in school history (0-5) for the Mids against an ACC team. Navy lost a 75-65 decision at Wake Forest in the 2016-17 season opener for both teams. Virginia Tech has compiled a 6-1 record against teams from the Patriot League and last faced a team from the league during the 2013-14 season (defeated Bucknell).
