The Navy women's basketball team will make its third trip to the NCAA Tournament this weekend when the Mids travel to Queens, N.Y., for a first round game. The Mids, who garnered the No. 15 seed in the Bridgeport (Conn.) Region, will face No. 2 Kentucky Sunday at 12:05 p.m. in Carnesecca Arena on the St. John's University campus. The winner of the Navy-Kentucky tilt will advance to Tuesday's second round where it will face the winner of Sunday's second game between No. 7 Dayton and No. 10 St. John's.
Navy received an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament by virtue of the Mids winning the Patriot League Tournament title for the third time in as many years. Navy compiled a 21-11 record this season and shared the regular season crown in the Patriot League for the second time in three years.
Kentucky posted a 27-5 record this season and placed second in the Southeastern Conference. The Wildcats, who are ranked seventh in both national polls this week, garnered an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament after advancing to the final of the SEC Tournament. Kentucky is making its fourth-straight trip to the NCAA Tournament and 10th trip overall. The Wildcats reached the Elite Eight in both 2010 and 2012.
