Burrows Added to Navy Women's Basketball Coaching Staff
Aug 16, 2013
ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Navy women's basketball head coach Stefanie Pemper announced today the hiring of Jody Burrows as an assistant coach for the program.
"Jody came highly recommended from a number of people I respect," said Pemper, "and she made a strong impression on me personally. She's a hard worker, she's a people person, and a competitor. She cares about her colleagues and players, and about their success, broadly-defined. She is intentional about this move and I think the Naval Academy is a great fit for her. Jody seems to have nice wisdom and great traits for a young person; I'm just excited to start working with her, to get to know her better and to see what she can accomplish for us at Navy."
"I am so excited to join the Navy women's basketball family," said Burrows. "I would like to thank Stefanie Pemper along with (Director of Athletics)Chet Gladchuk for extending me this opportunity. Navy is such a prestigious institution with a storied history and working with such intelligent and dedicated student-athletes is an honor."
Burrows spent the 2012-13 season as an assistant coach at Case Western Reserve University. The Spartans tallied the most wins for the program in 11 years with their 16-9 record last season. Four members of the squad earned all-league honors, with Evy Iacono also garnering the University Athletic Association's Player-of-the-Year laurel as well as honorable mention All-America accolades from D3Hoops.com.
A standout student-athlete in her own right, the native of Corry, Pa., served as the team captain in each of her final three seasons at Northeastern. Burrows ended her career ranked third in school history for career assists and second for career assist average, was involved in the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and was named one of Northeastern's Top-100 Most Influential Seniors in 2007. She earned Cum Laude honors at graduation with a bachelor's degree in organizational communications.
Burrows began her coaching career at her alma mater in 2009. She then became an assistant coach at Oberlin in 2010 before joining the staff at Case Western during the summer of 2012.
Burrows fills the vacancy on the Navy staff that was created when four-year assistant coach Maria Noucas left to become the lead assistant at Dartmouth.
