ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- A seven-player Class of 2018 is on The Yard attending classes at the Naval Academy and participating in workouts for the upcoming women's basketball season. The seven freshmen will look to bolster a team that lost five seniors to graduation in May and returns just one of its top-six scorers from the 2013-14 campaign.
"This is a group of young women who fit what we do in terms of playing style and who we are as a team," said seventh-year head coach Stefanie Pemper. "Graduating four starters is a significant transition for any program, so we wanted to bring in women with the talent and drive to step in and get after it. I like the character of this group and I think they are the right people for what we need on and off the court."
Navy will open its 2013-14 campaign with games Nov. 14 at North Carolina A&T and Nov. 16 at Elon, with both serving as homecoming games for senior team captain Chloe Stapleton (Cary, N.C.). The Mids will then open their home slate Nov. 20 against Mary Washington in Alumni Hall.
