ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The 2012-13 Navy women's basketball roster includes four members of the USNA Class of 2016. April Bernal (Alameda, Calif.), Peri Curtis (Coronado, Calif.), Rebecca Richmond (Superior, Colo.) and Chelsea Terry (Stafford, Va.) will join nine returning players from Navy's 2011-12 squad that won the program's second consecutive Patriot League Tournament title.
"It's a good class; I'm really pleased with them so far," said Navy head coach Stefanie Pemper. "They are working hard and they are respectful. It's been a rigorous six-week preseason and they've shown some confidence and real competitiveness. Off the court they have a lot of personality and are fun to be around. They are the best freshman class we've ever had in terms of dancing."
Pemper on Bernal: "April is already the best athlete on the team and has shown some nice mental toughness. She overcame adversity up at NAPS and emerged a wiser person, a better leader, and a more polished Midshipman. She played a high level of basketball in high school and AAU and can hang with the best of them. April has a nice skill set offensively and passes well. If she can embrace defense the way Alix Membreno does she could be terrific for us."
Pemper on Curtis:
"Peri is poised and sharp and picks things up well. It's obvious she's played pick-up basketball against older men because she has the confidence and craftiness to show for it. Peri has worked hard learning the physicality of our small forward position and she should do well as we get into our 5-on-5 concepts. She has nice inside-outside skills as well as the coveted mid-range game."

Pemper on Richmond: "Rebecca comes to the gym every day focused and ready to compete. Her high school coach told me she would raise the level of intensity at every practice and when you're joining the two-time defending Patriot League Tournament championship team, that's a quality the returners embrace. Rebecca is a solid shooter who moves well off the ball. She does a lot of little things well, like be scrappy and box-out."
"Chelsea has a nice three-point shot and a lot of athleticism driving to the basket. She's adept at creating for others or scoring on her own. Chelsea's a talented shot blocker at the guard position and plays with the same expression regardless of the situation. She works hard and she's getting better every week."
