Women's Crew Competes At Columbia
Links associated with this release: PELHAN, N.Y. - The Navy women's crew team competed in a number of races against Columbia, Massachusetts and Northeastern, Saturday morning on Orchard Beach Lagoon in Pelhan, N.Y. Navy placed third in a very tight first varsity race. Columbia won the race with a time of 6:40.3, followed by Northeastern at 6:45.0 and Navy at 6:46.3. The Mids barely held off Massachusetts by one-tenth of a second. "It was a great race," said Navy head coach Mike Hughes. "We had a late lead against Northeastern but ended up giving it away at the end." The second varsity and first novice races also saw close finishes between the teams. In the second varsity race, Massachusetts posted a winning time of 6:51.6, just ahead of second-place Navy at 6:54.9. Columbia would go on to win the first novice race in a time of 6:59.3, followed by Northeastern at 7:02.1 and Navy at 7:03.1. Navy did pick up a pair of victories on the day in the second novice and varsity four competitions. The Mids won the second novice race by three seconds over Northeastern and won the varsity four race by two seconds over Columbia. Navy will next be in action on Saturday when the Mids play host to MIT on the Severn River.
