ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Navy's women's crew team swept all four races from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Saturday morning on the Severn River in Annapolis, Md.
Navy's first varsity boat won its first dual-meet and ninth race of the season, posting a time of 7:09.1 to best MIT by nearly six seconds. Navy's second varsity boat ran its record to 14-1 with a two-second victory over MIT. The Mids also won the novice and varsity-four races on the day.
"It's a great day anytime you can win all of your races," said Navy head coach Mike Hughes. "I think the rough water conditions dictated a conservative race. Once we were able to get the lead our main concern was to just hold onto it, instead of trying to increase our lead and possibly run into trouble and lose it."
This was Navy's final race prior to the Eastern Sprint Championship on May 13.
"The Eastern Sprints is our way to the NCAAs," said Hughes. "We have two weeks to do some tinkering and hopefully we will be at our best for the races."
