Women's Golf Defeats The Citadel in Dual Match, 5-1
PATRIOTS POINT, S.C. -- The Navy women's golf team (1-0) opened its spring season with a 5-1 dual victory over The Citadel on Wednesday afternoon at the par-72 Patriots Point Links just outside of Charleston.
"It was exciting to see their hard work pay off and to get our spring season off to a great start," said Navy head coach Nadia Ste-Marie. "The temperature was a high of 48 with winds blowing 15+. It was a tough day for all."
Navy and The Citadel engaged in a match play dual with six singles matches.
Junior Christine Walker posted a 1 up win at the top singles spot over Cameron Little in the closest match of the day.
"Christine and her opponent both played great golf in the tough conditions," said Ste-Marie.
"Our early matches got off to a great start," said Ste-Marie. "It was important for us to get the early wins. The final four matches went back-and-fourth for most of the round and our players battled hard to gain momentum and win their matches."
This was Navy's third dual match in program history and its first dual using match play scoring.
Navy will next compete at the Low Country Intercollegiate in Hilton Head, S.C. this Saturday and Sunday. Live results will be available.
