April 12, 2013

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy women's golf team overcome heavy rain in the morning to shoot its third-best round of the season in a triangular match against Delaware State and St. Francis Brooklyn on Friday at the Naval Academy Golf Club.

Navy totaled a 359 to trail Delaware State by 27 strokes (332) and lead the Terriers by five shots (364). Action will conclude tomorrow at the Naval Academy Golf Club.

"We started the day with some heavy rain, but we stayed patient and most of our rounds turned around for the better on the second nine," said Navy head coach Nadia Ste-Marie.

Freshman Renata Bucher (Colorado Springs, Colo.) continues to pace the Midshipmen as she fired an opening-round 84 to rank third after the opening 18. The round was the fourth-best round shot by a Midshipmen this year.

Senior Catherine Reed (Tipp City, Ohio) followed with an 89, while Natalie Crow (San Jose, Calif.) was one stroke shy of her personal best with a 91. Grace Dalton (Jr. / Malvern, Pa.) rounded out Navy's scoring with a 95.

Delaware State's Mengxuan Gai posted the low round of the day with an 80, while teammate Brooke Foster followed with an 82.

Action will conclude tomorrow at the Naval Academy Golf Club, beginning at 10:00 AM.
