ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy women's golf team shot its second-best round of the year on Saturday, but wound up third in its three-team spring invitational in nearly perfect conditions at the Naval Academy Golf Course.

The Mids finished the two-day invite with a 713 after shooting a 354 today. St. Francis Brooklyn shot a 348 today to pass Navy and beat the Midshipmen by one shot with a 712. Delaware State won the event with a two-day total of 332-339=671.

"The team is continuing to make improvements. It is sad that we have only one week of competition left," said head coach Nadia Ste-Marie. "We are excited about the possibilities that lie ahead."

Freshman Renata Bucher (Colorado Springs, Colo.) finished in a tie for second after shooting an 82 today to finish at 166 (84-82). The 82 was just one stroke off her career low and was the second-best score by a Midshipman golfer in 2013.

Catherine Reed (Sr. / Tipp City, Ohio) recorded the best round of her career to finish in fifth place with a two-day total of 173 (89-84).

Grace Dalton (Jr. / Malvern, Pa.) finished in 14th place with a 95-91=186, while Natalie Crow (Sr. / San Jose, Calif.) followed with a 91-97=188.

The Midshipmen will take Sunday off, then will head to Littlestown, Pa., and Quail Valley Golf Course for the Mount St. Mary's Invitational on Monday and Tuesday.
