LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Grace Dalton paced a balanced scoring squad and the Navy women's golf team recorded its two best rounds of the year to sit in third place at the inaugural Patriot League Championships at the Par-70 Bucknell Golf Club on Saturday.
The four competing teams (Lehigh, Bucknell, Navy and Holy Cross) will wrap up competition on Sunday with 18 more holes to conclude the 54-hole event.
Navy recorded scores of 352-351=703 to finish day one in third place, 34 strokes ahead of fourth-place Holy Cross (365-372=737). Lehigh leads the way with a 315-317=632 and Bucknell is in second with a 317-320=637.
Dalton, a junior from Malvern, Pa., had a sensational first day to pace the Midshipmen with an 89-85=174. Her previous career-low round was an 89, done three times earlier this year, but she matched that in the first round, then surpassed it by four shots during the second 18. Dalton is in a tie for 12th overall.
Renata Bucher (Fr. / Colorado Springs, Colo.) overcome a tough first 18 to finish in a tie for 14th with a 93-82=175. Bucher's 82 in the second round is her third-best round of the season.
Navy's four counting scores were 174, 175, 176 and 178.
The championship will be determined on Sunday with tee times starting at 8:00 AM.
