ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- For the second straight weekend, the Navy women's golf team will host a local opponent in a dual meet as Towson comes to the Naval Academy Golf Course for a match with the Midshipmen, beginning Saturday at 10:00 AM in Annapolis.
The Midshipmen are coming off their first win in school history, a five-stroke triumph over Mount St. Mary's last Saturday in tough weather conditions. The Midshipmen tallied a 356, while placing first, tied for third and tied for third in the individual medalist race. Mount St. Mary's totaled a 361 on the par-71 layout.
Through three competitive rounds in school history, the Midshipmen are averaging a 356.0 after recording scores of 351 and 361 at the C&F Bank Intercollegiate two weeks ago and last weekend's 356. Leading the way is freshman Renata Bucher (Colorado Springs, Colo.), who earned medalist honors last weekend with an 83, with an 84.0 stroke average. She was Navy's top finisher at the C&F Bank Intercollegiate with rounds of 81-88=169, and has recorded three of Navy's top four scores so far this year.
Senior captain Catherine Reed (Tipp City, Ohio) is second on the team in scoring average at 88.0 strokes per round. She has tallied scores of 87, 88 and 89 this season.
Grace Dalton (Jr. / Malvern, Pa.) and Natalie Crow (Sr. / San Jose, Calif.) rank third and fourth on the team in scoring, at 90.3 and 93.7, respectively.
Navy returns to the road next weekend when it travels to Wilmington, N.C., for the UNCW Lady Seahawk Classic at the River Landing Country Club.
