Five Mids Named to PL Women's Golf Academic Honor Roll
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Five Navy women’s golfers have been named to the 2016-17 Patriot League Women’s Golf Academic Honor Roll, the conference office announced Wednesday. Recent graduate Marci Browning, rising senior Legare Augenstein, rising senior Jane Moon, rising senior Christine Walker and rising sophomore Morgan Frazier were each named to the academic honor roll.
Navy, Bucknell, Holy Cross and Lehigh each had a league-best five honor roll selections in 2016-17. To be eligible for the Patriot League Women’s Golf Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must earn at least a 3.20 grade-point average in the spring semester.
Browning was the lone Patriot League women’s golfer to record a perfect 4.00 grade-point average during the spring semester. She was named to the academic honor roll for the second season in a row. Browning recently graduated with a degree in political science and is currently a surface warfare officer (nuclear option) in the U.S. Navy.
Browning, Navy’s team captain, had a career-best scoring average of 86.4 in 2016-17. She shot an even-par 72 at the Seahawk Spring Invitational, the second-lowest single round in program history.
Augenstein had a 3.44 grade-point average in the spring semester as an English major. She was named to the academic honor roll for the second straight year.
Augenstein ranked fourth on the team with an 82.1 scoring average. Her 2-under par 70 at the Seahawk Spring Invitational was the lowest single round in program history.
Moon was named to the honor roll for the first time in her career after posting a 3.25 grade-point average as an operations research major.
Moon ranked third on the team with an 81.2 scoring average. Moon had two top-10 finishes in 2016-17, including a fourth-place showing at the Sacred Heart Invitational.
Walker was named to the honor roll for the second straight season after earning a 3.61 grade-point average as an ocean engineering major.
Walker broke her own program record for the lowest single-season scoring average with an 80.1 this year. Walker had three top-10 finishes in 2016-17, including a third-place finish at the Sacred Heart Invitational and a fourth-place finish at the Navy Spring Invitational.
Frazier was named to the academic honor roll in her freshman season after recording a 3.78 grade-point average as an operations research major.
Frazier was second on the team behind Walker in scoring average with an 80.3, which was the second-best in program history. Frazier was the individual medalist at the Seahawk Spring Invitational and shot an even-par 72 in her first collegiate round at the Navy Fall Invitational.
In its fifth season of varsity play in 2016-17, Navy had a program-best team scoring average of 322.2.
