The Navy women's golf team will host the Chesapeake Bay Invitational this Sunday and Monday at the Naval Academy Golf Club. The invitational will consist of 36 holes on Sunday and 18 holes on Monday. The first groups will go out at 8:00 am each day and the par-72 course will play 6,017 yards.
Joining Navy at the Chesapeake Bay Invitational will be Butler, Delaware State, Fairleigh Dickinson, St. Francis Brooklyn, Towson and Wagner, with a few other schools sending golfers to compete as individuals.
This will be Navy's first home fall invitational in program history after hosting one invitational and a pair of duals last spring.
Navy faced both Delaware State and St. Francis Brooklyn at the Navy Spring Invitational last April. Delaware State (712) edged out Navy (713) by one stroke for second place over 36 holes.
The Mids opened the 2013 fall season by competing at Bucknell's Lady Bison Classic two weeks ago, placing 16th of 17 teams with a score of 1,112 (374-374-364). The Mids showed improvement by dropping 10 strokes in their final round.
Sophomore Renata Bucher (Colorado Springs, Colo.) was Navy's top finisher with a three-day total of 252 (83-89-80). Bucher, who tied for 53rd out of 89 players, shot her best score, a 10-over-par 80, in the final round.
Freshman Katie Ryall (Colorado Springs, Colo.) was Navy's second finisher in her collegiate debut. Ryall improved each day by shooting 94-92-88 for an overall score of 274.
Navy will next compete at the Rutgers Invitational from October 14-15. The team will conclude its fall season at the Lehigh Invitational from October 27-28.
