McDonnell named NAAA Athlete of the Week
ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Navy freshman women’s golfer Christine McDonnell has been named the NAAA Athlete of the Week for her second-place finish at the Navy Fall Invitational last weekend.
McDonnell helped Navy place second as a team in the 12-school field at the Naval Academy Golf Club.
McDonnell set a pair of school records this past weekend with her second-round 4-under par 68 and her 54-hole total score of 219 (75-68-76; +3). The 68 was also a new Naval Academy Golf Club course record.
McDonnell was the individual runner-up in the 71-player field. Richmond’s Sophie DiPetrillo was the individual medalist, finishing two strokes ahead of McDonnell with a 217.
McDonnell also helped Navy set a new team score 54-hole tournament school record with a 915 (307-300-308; +51).
McDonnell was competing in just her second collegiate tournament and it was her first tournament at the Naval Academy Golf Club.
Navy will next compete at the Sacred Heart Invitational from Oct. 15-16.
