Women's Golf to Compete at the Delaware Invitational this Weekend
ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy women's golf team will close its fall schedule by competing at the nine-team Delaware Invitational at the par-72, 6,180-yard Rehoboth Beach Country Club in Rehoboth Beach, Del. this weekend. The 54-hole tournament will consist of 36 holes on Saturday beginning at 8:30 AM and the final 18 holes will be played on Sunday beginning at 9:00 AM. Live results will be available on Golfstat.com
The Delaware Invitational will have a very competitive field this weekend as Navy will compete against host Delaware, Albany, Bucknell, Harvard, James Madison, Penn, Penn State and Towson.
Competing as individuals will be sophomore Micah Vincent, sophomore Abby Schroeder and freshman Emily Root. Team captain Jane Moon is the only Midshipman not competing this weekend, as she is out with an injury.
In just her freshman season, McDonnell is leading Navy in scoring average at 75.9. McDonnell won the Sacred Heart Invitational last Sunday-Monday with a two-round score of 151 (75-76; +7). She was also the individual runner-up at the Navy Fall Invitational last month with a school-record score of 219 (75-68-76; +3).
Augenstein placed fifth individually at the Sacred Heart Invitational and she ranks fourth on the team with a career-low scoring average of 80.4.
Frazier is second on the team in scoring average at 77.7 and has placed in the top 10 of all three of Navy's tournaments this fall. Frazier was eighth at the Sacred Heart Invitational.
Park tied for 12th at her first collegiate event at Sacred Heart last weekend with a 169 (83-86; +25). Park will be in Navy's lineup for the second straight tournament.
Rounding out Navy's five-player starting lineup will be Walker. Walker is third on the team in scoring this fall at 79.3.
Walker set a Navy single-season scoring record last year with her average of 80.1. Through three tournaments this season, McDonnell, Frazier and Walker are all under that mark.
Head coach Nadia Ste-Marie has guided this year's team to a scoring average of 313.6, the lowest average in the program's six years of varsity play.
The Delaware Invitational will be Navy's fourth and final tournament of the fall season. Navy has posted two runner-up finishes and one third-place showing this fall.
Navy placed third out of nine teams at the Tignanelli Towson Invite, second of 12 teams at the Navy Fall Invitational, and second of seven teams at the Sacred Heart Invitational.
This is the third time in four years that Navy will compete at the Delaware Invitational. The Mids placed eighth of 10 teams in 2014 and 11th of 13 teams in 2015.
Walker and Augenstein have a wealth of experience at the Rehoboth Beach Country Club, as they both competed at the Delaware Invitational in 2014 and 2015.
Navy will open its spring tournament schedule at the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Classic in South Carolina from Feb. 25-27. For the second time in program history, Navy will host the Patriot League Women's Golf Championship at the Naval Academy Golf Club from April 21-22.
