No. 19 Women's Lacrosse Defeats Michigan On Senior Day, 12-9

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Freshman Kaitlan Moynihan's (Bel Air, Md.) five-point performance leads No. 19 Navy women's lacrosse over Michigan, 12-9 Saturday at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. Navy improves to 12-1, while Michigan falls to 1-10 on the season.

"Give a lot of credit to Michigan today, they came out with a lot energy," Head coach Cindy Timchal said. "They have learned a lot in their first season and gave us a run for our money. There were areas on defense I thought we could have played better and hopefully we improve in practice these next couple of days before our game against Lehigh."

Kaitlan Moynihan recorded five-point on three goals and two assists to lead the Mids. Jill Coughlin tallied three goals and Loren Generi, Katie Gallagher and Aislinn Probst each chipped in with two goals. Generi recorded seven draw controls for the eighth time this season.

Navy (12-1) held a 7-4 lead through 30 minutes of play. Generi and Coughlin combined for four of Navy's seven first half goals. The Mids out shot the Wolverines, 19-5 and held an advantage in ground balls, 13-4. Michigan's goalkeeper Allison Silber had a strong first half with seven saves to keep the Wolverines in contention.

Moynihan began the second half with her second goal of the contest two-minutes and nine-seconds in to extend Navy's lead to four, 8-4.



Michigan (1-10) went on a three-goal run in a span of 7:42 to cut the deficit to one, 8-7, with 19:06 remaining in the contest. The Wolverines leading goal-scorer Anna Schueler began the run with her first goal of the game. Teammates Tess Korten and Jess Angerman each added a goal during the stretch.

Moynihan and Probst scored back-to-back goals to bring Navy's lead back up to three, 10-7, with 14:22 left in the contest.

Down three with 11:30 left, Michigan's Korten and Angerman each recorded a goal within 28 seconds of one another. The Wolverines trailed, 10-9, with 11:02 remaining.

Navy's Moynihan dished two-straight assists, one to Gallagher and one to Coughlin, to extend the Mids' lead back to three, 12-9, with 4:38 left on the clock. Navy held on for the final minutes of the game to record a perfect 8-0 mark in nonconference play.

Navy goalkeeper Cassidy Chaney tallied three saves on 12 chances to improve to 2-0 in net. Michigan's Silber tallied 12 saves on 24 chances in the loss.

Navy held advantages over Michigan in shots, 30-13, ground balls, 21-13 and draw controls, 14-9.

Navy will host its final regular-season contest against Lehigh on Wednesday, April 9 at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. Opening draw is set for 6:36 p.m. on CBS Sports Network. Brent Stover and Sheehan Stanwick-Burch will have the call for the contest.
