DePompeo and Mellin to Captain Navy Women's Lacrosse Team

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Head coach Cindy Timchal has announced that seniors Jasmine DePompeo (Sayville, N.Y.) and Emily Mellin (Sherwood Forest, Md.) will serve as co-captains for the Navy women's lacrosse team in 2013.
DePompeo, an attacker, has been named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year in each of the past two seasons. She scored 92 points on 45 goals and 47 assists last season and tallied 99 points on 57 goals and 42 assists in 2011.
DePompeo earned CoSIDA Academic All-America honors in 2012 and is a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree. DePompeo is a political science major with a concentration in American law and politics. She has received the service selection of Naval Flight Officer.
Mellin was a full-time starter on Navy's defense in 2012 and also sees time on the midfield line. Last season Mellin tallied 30 ground balls, caused 14 turnovers, scored three goals and had one assist.
Mellin, an ocean engineering major, was named to the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll in 2012. She has received the service selection of Surface Engineering Duty.
Navy posted an 18-3 overall record in 2012 and won a third straight Patriot League Championship and advanced to a third straight NCAA Tournament. The Mids are receiving votes in the 2013 deBeer Media Preseason Poll.
Navy will host Japan in an exhibition game on February 3 and will open the 2013 regular season on February 10 at home against Winthrop.
