Women’s Lacrosse Ranked 10th in IWLCA Preseason Poll

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) released its preseason poll and the Navy women’s lacrosse team are ranked 10th in the initial poll. It is the highest preseason ranking in program history for the Midshipmen. 

The University of Maryland, the 2017 NCAA National Champions, claimed the top spot in the preseason poll, followed closely by Stony Brook. North Carolina, Penn State, and Florida round out the top five teams in the preseason rankings.

This season, the Midshipmen are slated to play four teams that are ranked in the preseason poll – No. 5 Florida, No. 6 Boston College, No. 14 Virginia, and No. 25 Loyola (Md.)

Following its historic run to the Final Four, Navy finished the 2017 season ranked sixth in the country according to the IWCLA – the highest national ranking for any women's team in school history.

As a team last season, Navy set the school record for points (545), goals (358), assists (187), shots attempted (805), shots on goal (607), ground balls (453), draw controls (364), caused turnovers (216), and games played (23). The Mids finished one-win shy of tying the school records for wins in a season.

The Navy women's lacrosse team opens up the 2018 season at home on Saturday, Feb. 10, as the Midshipmen host the Ohio State Buckeyes.
