Women's Lacrosse Ranked In All Three National Preseason Polls

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy women’s lacrosse team is ranked 18th in the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Preseason Poll, announced Monday. The Mids are also ranked 12th in the Inside Lacrosse Brine Division I Women’s Media Preseason Top-20 Poll and 18th in the Lacrosse Magazine Preseason Poll.
Navy, the four-time defending Patriot League Champion, receive its highest ranking in the IWLCA preseason poll in program history. The Mids have been ranked as high as 13th in the regular-season poll, which happened on April 8, 2013. Navy finished the 2013 season ranked 15th in the final poll.
The Mids tallied 81 votes in the IWLCA preseason poll, which was second best in the Patriot League behind preseason-favorite Loyola’s 233 (ranked ninth). Navy and the Greyhounds were the only two teams to receive votes and be placed in the top 20 from the Patriot League.
The reigning national champion North Carolina Tar Heels were ranked first with 398 votes and 360 of the possible 400 first-place votes and were followed by 2013 runner-up Maryland with 20 first-place votes and 371 total votes. Syracuse (368 votes), Northwestern (336) and Florida (311) rounded out the top five in the preseason poll.
Navy will open the 2014 season on the road against Longwood on Saturday, Feb. 8 at Athletics Complex (12 pm).
