The latest installment of the Navy Women's Lacrosse Player Blog comes from freshman attack Aimee Gennaro.

It's just another day in paradise along the Severn River, as Navy women's lacrosse gets ready for the 2011 season.

When we came back from winter break, we hit the ground running with "Get Jacked January." This is when we put in some extra hard work in the weight room with our strength and conditioning coach, Rett Warren.

We have also been taking our love for lacrosse outside the gates of the Academy. We have been participating in a number of community service activities to teach young girls how to play the game.

We traveled to the Excel Academy in Washington, DC to introduce the sport to first and second grade girls. We only stayed for a few hours, but we definitely saw some future laxers in the room. We also ran our winter clinic at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. It was the first time the freshmen had a chance to play on our home field and it was definitely a day we will all remember.

We also got a group together to take a dip in the Chesapeake Bay for the 15th annual Polar Bear Plunge. was there to capture some of the fun and they posted a picture of us on their website.

Congratulations to three of our seniors who recently made their ship selections. Following graduation, Ryan Yohe and Lexi Dauernheim will be soaking up some rays in San Diego, and Carissa Youker will be heading to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

As we get ready for the season, we have been all business in the locker room. That is until Katrina Nietsch and Danielle Vivonetto break out the microphone and inspire us with a song. It's a good thing we all have naval careers to look forward to, because none of us will be making it big as singers. After our locker room jam sessions, we head out to practice, where we always push ourselves harder than the day before. Navy women's lacrosse is all about getting better every day and making each day the "Best Day Ever."

All of this preseason excitement has been nothing in comparison to the anticipation for our first game. We all keep track of the number of "sleeps" until game day and there are only two more to go until we open our 2011 season against Mount St. Mary's on Friday!
