O’Sullivan Earns Patriot League Attacker of the Week Honors
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Navy women’s lacrosse junior Molly O’Sullivan (Centreville, Va.) was named Patriot League Attacker of the Week as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon. O’Sullivan helped the national-ranked Midshipmen to a 9-7 season-opening victory over Big Ten foe Ohio State on Saturday afternoon. The accolade is O’Sullivan’s first of her Navy career.
The junior attacker scored two goals on three shot attempts, while adding an assist. O’Sullivan was one of three players to record multiple goals in the game and her three points on the day was the second most by the Mids. All of O’Sullivan’s points came at critical times of the game.
Tied 1-1, she passed the ball to Jenna Collins (Clarksville, Md.) who found the back of the net for the go-ahead score.
In the second half, O’Sullivan netted her first goal of the season off of a pass from 2017 PL Rookie of the Year Kelly Larkin (Alexandria, Va.) to give Navy an 8-4 advantage. The goal proved to be the game-winner as Ohio State finished the game with seven goals. O’Sullivan added an insurance goal with just over 21 minutes to play, converting a pass from Collins.
Navy returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 17, as the Midshipmen welcome Columbia to Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. The game is part of a doubleheader with the men's team with the women's team beginning at 11:00 a.m.
