Women's Lacrosse to Play at Liberty Saturday

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy women's lacrosse team (1-0) will play at Liberty (1-0) on Saturday at 12 noon at the Liberty Lacrosse Field in Lynchburg, Va. The Mids and the Flames are meeting for the first time. Live statistics will be available on www.navysports.com(.)
Navy opened the 2013 season with a 23-4 win over Winthrop last Sunday at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. Twelve different players scored at least one point and Navy used a 10-0 run in the first half to put the game out of reach.
Junior attacker Aimee Gennaro (Havertown, Pa.) scored a game-high six goals on just seven shots and senior attacker Jasmine DePompeo (Sayville, N.Y.) had two goals and five assists for a game-high seven points.
Senior attacker Kathy Young (Berwyn, Pa.) scored four goals and had a career-high nine draw controls and sophomore attacker Loren Generi (Bayport, N.Y.) had two goals, one assist and five draw controls.
Senior goalie Charlotte Hauser (Greenfield Center, N.Y.) earned her first career win in the cage by making three saves and allowing just two goals in 40 minutes of action.
With her five assists on Sunday, DePompeo took over sole possession of the Navy program record with 101 career assists. DePompeo has 216 career points (115 g, 101 a) and is 78 shy of Erin Rawlick's school record of 294.
Navy is receiving votes in both the IWLCA and deBeer Media Preseason Polls.
Liberty opened its fourth season of varsity women's lacrosse with a 16-3 win over Stetson last weekend. Stetson is a first-year program.
Liberty led 6-2 at the half and scored the game's final 10 goals. Junior midfielder Jen Freymond scored four goals and sophomore attacker Morgan Becker had a hat trick.
Junior defender Jen Moyer had three ground balls, five draw controls, an assist and a caused turnover and was named the Big South Conference Defensive Player of the Week. Goalie Kristen Masullo made 14 saves and played the full 60 minutes, allowing just three goals.
Liberty is a member of the Big South Conference, which is sponsoring women's lacrosse for the first time in 2013. The Flames have been picked to finish fifth in the league's preseason poll. Liberty was 3-14 in 2012.
Navy is playing three straight games against Big South competition to open the 2013 season. Navy beat Winthrop, 23-4, last weekend and will host conference preseason favorite High Point on Friday at 4 PM.
The Mids will also welcome in Monmouth on Sunday at 12 noon as the team embarks on a season-long six-game homestand. Navy has won 13 straight home games and is one win shy of the program record.
