Feb. 19, 2013
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Junior attacker Aimee Gennaro (Havertown, Pa.) has been named the Patriot League Women's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending February 17, the conference office recently announced.
The first reporting window included the first two weeks of the season, during which Navy went 2-0 with wins over Winthrop (23-4) and Liberty (15-7).
Gennaro scored a game-high six goals on just seven shots in Navy's season-opening win over Winthrop on February 10. The six goals were just one shy of her career high. Gennaro scored five goals in the first half as Navy jumped out to a 16-2 lead.
Gennaro followed that performance with a game-high four goals in Navy's 15-7 win at Liberty on February 16. Gennaro also had three ground balls and two draw controls.
Through the first two games, Gennaro has scored a team-high 10 goals on a blistering .769 shooting percentage.
Gennaro finished the 2012 season with 18 goals in Navy's four postseason games and is averaging 4.67 goals over her last six games. She has also scored a goal in 17-straight games. Gennaro scored 52 goals in 2012.
This is Gennaro's sixth career Patriot League weekly honor.
Additionally, Navy has been voted at No. 20 of the first in-season national deBeer Media Poll. This week's top-ranked team is Northwestern and the Mids will host the Wildcats on March 11. The game will be televised on CBS Sports Network.
This is the fourth straight season that Navy has been ranked for at least one week in the deBeer Media Poll. Navy was receiving votes in the preseason poll and finished the 2012 season at No. 19.
