Feb. 22, 2013
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Navy women's lacrosse attacker Jasmine DePompeo (Sayville, N.Y.) has been named to the 2013 Tewaaraton Award Watch List. This is the second-consecutive season DePompeo has appeared on the watch list.
The Tewaaraton Award annually honors the top male and top female college lacrosse player in the United States. The selection committees are made up of top collegiate coaches and are appointed annually by The Tewaaraton Foundation. Committees will make additions to these lists as the season progresses and athletes earn a spot along side these elite players.
There are currently 50 players on the women's watch list and the list will be narrowed to 25 nominees in late April. In mid-May, five women's finalists will be announced. These finalists will be invited to Washington, D.C. for the 13th annual Tewaaraton Award Ceremony on May 30 at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of the American Indian.
DePompeo is a two-time Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year and a two-time IWLCA All-South Region honoree. DePompeo has helped Navy win three straight Patriot League titles and the team has advanced to three straight NCAA Tournaments.
DePompeo has ranked in the NCAA's top 10 in both points and assists in each of the past two seasons. DePompeo tallied 99 points on 57 goals and 42 assists in 2011 and had 92 points on 45 goals and 47 assists in 2012.
The senior co-captain is off to a superb start in 2013, averaging 7.00 points over Navy's first two contests. DePompeo has a team-high 14 points on five goals and nine assists. DePompeo is Navy's school-record holder in career assists with 105 and she ranks second with 223 career points.
For the second-consecutive season, DePompeo is the only women's lacrosse player in the Patriot League to appear on the Tewaaraton Award Watch List.
DePompeo and the 20th-ranked Navy women's lacrosse team (2-0) will host High Point (1-1) today at 4:00 PM.
