March 12, 2018

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. -- For the second time this season, senior captain Blake Smith (Sykesville, Md.) was named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office.

Smith helped Navy to a 16-11 victory over Saint Joseph's on the road last Tuesday evening. The senior led the team with four ground balls, while causing a team-high four turnovers in the game. Smith accounted for half of Navy's eight caused turnovers in the game and disrupted the Saint Joseph's offense, leading to 13 total turnovers by the Hawks.

After surrendering seven goals in the first half, Smith and the defense made adjustments to limit the home team to just four goals in the second stanza. During the game, she was not called for a foul and did not have a turnover in the game. Smith facilitated the offense by helping the Midshipmen convert 20-of-21 (.952) clear attempts.

Navy (5-1) returns to action on Tuesday as the No. 10 Midshipmen take on No. 6 Florida (4-2) at 1:00 p.m. at Donald R. Dizney Stadium in Gainesville, Fla. Live stats and live video (YouTube) will be available throughout the game.
