March 18, 2013
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Navy senior attacker Jasmine DePompeo (Sayville, N.Y.) has been named the Patriot League Women's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week for the second straight week, the conference office announced Monday. Additionally, Navy moved up to a program-best national ranking of No. 14 in the deBeer Media Poll.
DePompeo helped lead Navy (8-1, 2-0 PL) to a 2-1 record last week, scoring a team-high 18 points on eight goals and 10 assists. This is DePompeo's fifth career league offensive player of the week award.
The senior co-captain started the week by scoring eight points on five goals and three assists in a three-goal loss to defending national champion and fourth-ranked Northwestern. Navy and Northwestern were tied at 10-10 with 15 minutes to go before the Wildcats went on a 5-0 run. DePompeo scored back-to-back goals in the final minutes to cut the lead to 15-12. DePompeo's eight points are the most by any player against the Wildcats this season.
DePompeo then scored five points on two goals and three assists in Navy's 11-10 overtime win over New Hampshire on Wednesday. She capped off the week by tallying five more points on one goal and four assists in a snow-shortened 9-3 win at Bucknell on Saturday.
DePompeo has scored at least four points in all nine games this season and has scored at least seven points six times. She is currently seventh on the Patriot League career scoring chart with 266 points and is second with 124 career assists.
DePompeo's 57 total points (29g, 28a) are leading the Patriot League for the third straight season. She also ranks second in the country with 6.33 points per game behind Alex Aust (6.44) of top-ranked Maryland.
Navy will travel to George Washington (5-3) on Wednesday for a 4:00 PM game.
