ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Navy's Meg Decker was named the Patriot League women's lacrosse Rookie of the Week, the league office announced on Monday. Decker helped Navy to a 1-1 record last week, including a key win over preseason league favorite, American, last Tuesday. It marks the second time this year that Decker has won Rookie of the Week honors.
Decker, a freshman midfielder from Catonsville, Md., scored seven goals last week in two Navy games, while contributing three ground balls and two draw controls. In Navy's thrilling 13-12 victory over American on Tuesday, Decker scored four goals, including the game-winner, while grabbing one draw control. She scored three of her goals in the first half as Navy jumped out to a 9-2 lead, then tallied the game-winner with 11:32 to play after American had rallied early in the second half. It was the first game-winning goal of her career.
Decker then scored three goals in Navy's 15-12 loss to Lehigh on Saturday. She netted a pair of goals in the first half, then added a free-position goal in the second half. She also tallied three ground balls and one draw control.
Decker ranks second on the team in scoring with 47 points and is second in goals (37) and third in assists (10). She also is second with 34 draw controls and third with 22 ground balls. She is Navy's leader in free-position goals with nine.
Additionally, Decker is third nationally among freshmen in scoring (47 points) and goals (37).
Decker and the Mids begin their stretch run with a home contest on Wednesday, April 9, against Howard, beginning at 4:00 pm. It will be the first of three straight games (the final home games of the year) at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. Navy will host Bucknell on Saturday, April 12, beginning at 1:00 pm, then will host Robert Morris on Senior Day, on April 16, starting at 4:00 pm.
