CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Navy women’s lacrosse senior Jill Coughlin (Annapolis, Md.) and sophomore Katie Gallagher (Bel Air, Md.) were named to the 2014 Patriot League All-Academic team, announced by the league office Wednesday. Coughlin boasted the second highest GPA (3.85) amongst the 12-member All-Academic squad.
To be eligible for the Academic All-Patriot League Team, student-athletes must have at least a 3.20 grade point average and be a starter or key reserve.
For the second time in her career, Coughlin was named to the Patriot League All-Academic team with a 3.85 GPA while majoring in Honors Oceanography. The senior attacker has tallied a 4.0 GPA in her major in five-straight semesters. At the Naval Academy, Coughlin has been named to the superintendent’s list five times and seven-straight semesters on the commandant’s list.
Outside of the classroom, Coughlin is one of Navy’s top offensive options. The Annapolis, Md. native is third on the team with 33 goals. She eclipsed the 100-point plateau for her career earlier this season, becoming the 10th player in program history to accomplish the feat.
Gallagher garnered Patriot League All-Academic laurels with a 3.31 GPA while majoring in Oceanography. In her first semester in oceanography, the sophomore attacker tallied a 4.0 GPA. She has been named to the superintendent’s list once and to the commandant’s list in her first three semesters at the Academy.
On the field, Gallagher has been complimentary to teammate Loren Generi, as both play behind the net. Gallagher is second on the team in assists (18) and third in points (38). The Bel Air, Md. native has tallied at least one point in every game this season.
Navy will face Boston University in the Patriot League Semifinals Thursday at Ridley Athletic Complex in Baltimore. Game is slated for 7:30 p.m.
