CENTER VALLEY, Pa. -
The Navy women's lacrosse team (15-2) has placed four student-athletes on the Patriot League All-Academic Team, the conference office announced Tuesday. The all-academic team is voted on by the Patriot League women's lacrosse sports information contacts.
Junior attacker Jasmine DePompeo (Sayville, N.Y.), junior midfielder Kathy Young (Berwyn, Pa.), senior defender and team captain Kierstin King (Upperco, Md.) and sophomore midfielder Jill Coughlin (Annapolis, Md.) represented Navy on the 13-member team.
Earlier on Tuesday, DePompeo earned a second straight Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year accolade and was named to the all-league first team. Young and King also earned All-Patriot League First-Team honors.
DePompeo leads Navy and the Patriot League with 75 points and 41 assists this season and averaged 4.67 points per game in Patriot League play. DePompeo ranks in the top 10 in the nation in total points and assists. She recently moved into a tie for second place on Navy's career scoring chart with 192 career points. DePompeo is a member of the Tewaaraton Award Watch List.
A political science major with a 3.38 cumulative GPA, DePompeo has been selected to the Commandant's List three times and the Dean's List once. DePompeo was named to the 2011 CoSIDA All-Academic District II First Team and was a member of the 2011 Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.
Young appears on the all-academic team for the second straight year. Young has tallied 51 points on 47 goals and four assists this season, to go along with 64 draw controls, 25 ground balls and 13 caused turnovers.
Young is an ocean engineering major with a 3.60 cumulative GPA. Young is a two-time Patriot League Academic Honor Roll selection and has been named to the Commandant's List five times, the Superintendent's List four times and the Dean's List once.
King earned her second straight selection to the All-Patriot League First Team on Tuesday and her third all-league honor overall. King leads Navy with 33 ground balls and 17 caused turnovers and has guided a Navy defense that ranks fifth in the country in scoring defense (7.88). The Mids have held 12 opponents to eight goals or fewer.
King, an oceanography major, has earned a 4.0 GPA in three straight semesters and holds a cumulative GPA of 3.37. King is a two-time Patriot League Academic Honor Roll selection and has been named to the Commandant's List four times and the Dean's List once. King received surface warfare officer-ocean option as her service selection.
Coughlin has started 16 games in the Navy midfield this season and has 26 points on 19 goals and seven assists. Coughlin also has 14 ground balls, eight draw controls and 11 caused turnovers.
Coughlin carries a 3.73 GPA as an oceanography major and has been named to the Superintendent's List twice, the Dean's List once and the Commandant's List three times.
The Patriot League All-Academic Team is in its second season of existence. Young and 2011 graduate Katrina Nietsch were named to the inaugural all-academic team last year.
Navy earned the Patriot League Regular Season title with an undefeated 6-0 record and the Mids have won 15 of its last 16 games overall. Navy will host the four-team Patriot League Tournament this weekend.
