deBeer Women's Lacrosse Media Poll (4/30/12)
ANNAPOLIS, Md. - One day after winning its third straight Patriot League Tournament Championship, the Navy women's lacrosse team (17-2) made its first appearance of the season in the deBeer Women's Lacrosse Media Poll, appearing at No. 18. The Mids earned 20 voting points this week and to share the No. 18 spot with Princeton. Northwestern, one of the two teams to defeat Navy this season, is ranked No. 1, followed by Florida, Syracuse and Maryland.
This is the fifth time in the last three years that Navy has been ranked in the media poll's top 20. The ranking of No. 18 matches Navy's best showing, which had previously been in the May 10, 2010 poll after the team defeated Sacred Heart, 12-2, in an NCAA Play-In Game.
Navy will play in an NCAA Play-In Game this Saturday at 1:00 PM (PT) at Oregon (14-4), the winner of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. This is Navy's third straight year in an NCAA Play-In Game. Navy was victorious in the play-in game in each of the last two seasons to advance to back-to-back NCAA Tournaments.
The NCAA Selection Show will be streamed on NCAA.com on Sunday, May 6 at 9:00 PM (ET).
In addition to its team ranking in the national poll, Navy is ranked in a number of statistical categories in Monday's NCAA report.
As a team, Navy is fourth in the nation in draw controls (15.79/game), fifth in total points (381), sixth in scoring offense (15.21), sixth in scoring defense (8.00) and seventh in scoring margin (+7.21).
Individually, junior attacker Jasmine DePompeo (Sayville, N.Y.) is seventh in points (81) and ninth in assists (44). Freshman attacker Loren Generi (Bayport, N.Y.) is second in total draw controls (112) and third in draw controls per game (5.89). Junior attacker Kathy Young (Berwyn, Pa.) is eighth in goals scored (57).
Young scored seven goals in the Navy's Patriot League Championship victory over Holy Cross (18-11) and was named the tournament's most valuable player.
