Annapolis, Md. - After her Patriot League Tournament MVP performance in leading Navy to the 2011 conference title, sophomore attack Jasmine DePompeo has earned a spot on the Inside Lacrosse National Team of the Week, the web site recently announced. DePompeo was also chosen as the Synapse Sports/WomensLacrosse.com National Offensive Player of the Week two days ago.
DePompeo's 13 points over two games last week at the Patriot League Tournament is a new league record, as was her nine points in the championship game and seven total assists in the tournament. DePompeo scored seven points in the second half alone in the title game to lead Navy back from a five-goal deficit against top-seeded Colgate.
DePompeo leads Navy in goals (53), assists (37) and points (90) this season. DePompeo ranks second in the nation in points, fourth in points per game and sixth in assists. Her 90 points are the fourth most in a single season at Navy behind Erin Rawlick's three years of varsity play and the 37 assists are tied for the most in a single season at Navy. DePompeo needs just three points to move into second place on the single season scoring chart at Navy.
She was also named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year and to the all-league first team at the conclusion of the regular season. DePompeo surpassed the 100 career point plateau in the championship game, becoming just the second Navy sophomore to achieve the feat.
Navy (14-5) will host Northeast Conference Champion Quinnipiac (13-4) in an NCAA Play-In Game on Saturday at noon at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. The winner will receive an automatic bid to the 2011 NCAA Tournament.
