Collins Named NAAA Athlete of the Week
ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Women’s lacrosse team captain Julia Collins (Clarksville, Md.) was selected as this week’s Naval Academy Athletic Association Athlete of the Week.
Collins helped the Mids capture the 2018 Patriot League Championship for the second consecutive year. The senior was named to the All-Tournament team along with sister Jenna, and fellow seniors Ingrid Boyum (Herndon, Va.) and Blake Smith (Sykesville, Md.) while also being selected as the Most Valuable Player.
She tied a Patriot League Tournament record with 11 goals in the tournament and 13 total points.
The attacker led the team in the semifinals against Lehigh with a team-best seven points, netting a team-high five goals to go along with two assists in a 20-5 victory. In the championship game against No. 9 Loyola, Collins led the team with a game-high six goals en route to a 17-10 victory for the title. In addition, added four draw controls and a ground ball in two games.
The 2018 NCAA Tournament kicks off on Friday. Loyola plays Fairfield at 4:00 p.m. at Ridley Athletic Complex, while Navy will play Johns Hopkins at 7:00 p.m. The winners of the first round games will meet on Sunday at 12:00 p.m. at Ridley Athletic Complex.
