Trio of Women's Lacrosse Players Named IWLCA All-South Region
ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy women's lacrosse team had three student-athletes selected to the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) All-South Region team. Jenna Collins (Clarksville, Md.) and Kelly Larkin (Alexandria, Va.) were selected to the first team, while Julia Collins (Clarksville, Md.) was named to the second team.
For Jenna Collins, the All-South Region selection was her first time being named to the first team, while for Julia Collins and Larkin, it was their first time being selected All-South Region. Jenna Collins and Larkin being named to the first team marks the first time Navy had someone selected to the first team since Jasmine DePompeo in 2013. Jenna Collins joins DePompeo and Loren Generi as three-time members of the All-South Region team. For Larkin and Julia Collins, it is the first selection of their careers.
Earlier this month, Jenna Collins was named to the All-Patriot League first team for the fourth time in her career, while earning Midfielder of the Year for the third consecutive season. The senior is second to Larkin in points scored with 100, while leading the Patriot League in goals scored with 75. In addition, Jenna Collins leads the team in ground balls, draw controls, and free position goals. She has recorded a hat trick in 16 of 19 games this season and 40 for her career. Jenna Collins ranks second all-time in Navy history in points scored (317), goals scored (216), and assists (101). She is the first player in Navy history with 200 or more goals and 100 or more assists.
Larkin, who is a two-time All-Patriot League selection, leads the team in points with 103, recording 56 goals and a team-high 47 assists on the year. She has played and started all 19 regular season games for the Mids, registering 11 hat tricks on the year. The former Patriot League Rookie of the Year earned three PL Attacker of the Week accolades. For her two-year career, Larkin ranks second in Navy history in assists with 101, seventh in points scored with 211, and 11th in goals scored with 110.
For Julia Collins, the accolade is the first of her career. The senior is third on the Navy team with 83 total points, tallying 59 goals and 24 assists on the season. She was named captain of the offense prior to the season and helped lead the Midshipmen to back-to-back Patriot League Tournament Championships. Julia Collins has registered 13 hat tricks on the season to give her 26 for her career. She ranks sixth all-time in Navy history in points scored with 232, seventh in goals scored with 163, and seventh in assists with 69.
The No. 7 Navy women's lacrosse team (16-3) opens up play in the 2018 NCAA Tournament on Friday night against No. 20 Johns Hopkins (10-8) at the Ridley Athletic Complex in Baltimore, Md. First and second round host No. 10 Loyola (15-4) will take on Fairfield (13-6) at 4:00 p.m. before the Midshipmen face the Blue Jays at 7:00 p.m. Live stats and live video will be available throughout the weekend.
