Larkin Selected NAAA Athlete of the Week
ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Women’s lacrosse attacker Kelly Larkin (Alexandria, Va.) was selected as this week’s Naval Academy Athletic Association Athlete of the Week.
Larkin helped lead the No. 7 Navy women's lacrosse team to the NCAA Tournament Quarterfinals for the second consecutive year, defeating No. 20 Johns Hopkins, 16-9, and No. 10 Loyola, 19-15.
The sophomore finished the weekend with a team-best 12 points in two games. Larkin was second on the team with five points in the Mids' first-round matchup against Hopkins, scoring two goals and adding a team-high three assists. The Alexandria, Va. native followed that performance with a team-best seven points against the Greyhounds, tallying three goals and notching a team-best four assists. She scored what proved to be the game-winning goal against Loyola.
Against the Blue Jays, Larkin tallied two points in the first half with a goal and an assist before finishing the game with a goal and two helpers in the second half. Against the Greyhounds, she had assists on all four of Kayla Harris' (Annapolis, Md.) career high four goals, while also notching her 12th hat trick of the season. Six of Larkin’s seven assists on the weekend went to Harris.
Navy travels to College Park to take on defending National Champion and No. 1 national seed Maryland this weekend. The Mids and Terps square off at noon on Saturday, May 19, at the Maryland Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex. The game will be live streamed on the Big Ten Network To Go and aired on the Big Ten Network on a delay.
