Larkin, Collins Earn Inside Lacrosse Weekly Honors
ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Navy women's lacrosse's Kelly Larkin (Alexandria, Va.) and Julia Collins (Clarksville, Md.) earned Inside Lacrosse weekly honors after helping the Midshipmen to the NCAA Tournament Quarterfinals. Larkin earned her second consecutive Inside Lacrosse Rookie of the Week accolade, while Collins picked up her first Alpha Lacrosse National Player of the Week honor of the season.
Larkin and Collins helped lead Navy to a pair of NCAA Tournament wins over No. 7 seeded Penn, 11-10, and nine-time A-10 champion UMass, 23-11, lifting the Mids to their first-ever NCAA quarterfinal berth.
Larkin finished the weekend with 12 points, scoring four goals and adding a team-high eight assists. She opened the weekend with a goal and two assists in Navy's one-goal win over No. 7 Penn -- Navy's first victory over a ranked opponent in program history. Against UMass, Larking recorded a hat trick, scoring three goals, while adding a team-best six assists to notch a team-best nine points in the game.
Collins scored 10 points on the weekend, tying the Navy school record with eight goals in a game against UMass. In the opening round of the NCAA Tournament, Collins scored two goals, including the game-winning goal against No. 7 Penn. In addition to scoring 10 goals, Collins finished the weekend with a team-best 13 draw controls. She won a team-high five draws against Penn, while adding a team-best eight draw controls against UMass.
Navy (17-4) will face No. 2 seed North Carolina (17-2) at Fetzer Field in Chapel, Hill, N.C. on Saturday, May 20 at 1:00 p.m. in the Elite Eight of the NCAA Women's Lacrosse Tournament.
