Boyum, Larkin Earn Weekly Honors
ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Ingrid Boyum (Herndon, Va.) and Kelly Larkin (Alexandria, Va.) of the Navy women’s lacrosse team picked up a pair of weekly awards. Boyum was selected as the Naval Academy Athletic Association Athlete of the Week, while Larkin was tabbed Co-Rookie of the Week by Inside Lacrosse.
Boyum helped the Midshipmen to their first ever Final Four appearance, picking up her 18th win of the season with a 16-14 victory over defending National Champion and No. 2 seed North Carolina. The junior tied a career high with 11 saves in the game, continuing her hot play throughout the postseason. Boyum has 29 saves in three games during the NCAA Tournament with a pair of 11-stop performances. In addition to making double-digit saves, she recorded a team-high five ground balls, while helping the team convert 18-of-20 clear attempts.
Offensively, Larkin paced the offense against the Tar Heels, recording six points in the game. The freshman scored a team-high four goals to go along with a pair of saves. The six points in the game gives the rookie 102 points on the season, making her just the fourth player in Navy history to record 100 or more points in a single season and the first freshman to accomplish the feat.
Navy plays in the 2017 NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Final Four this weekend as the Midshipmen take on Boston College on Friday, May 26, at 7:30 p.m. in Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass.
