ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy women's lacrosse team punctuated its finest season to date with a No. 19 ranking in the final deBeer Media Poll of the 2012 season. Navy also finished the season at No. 14 in the RPI rankings and the team received votes in final IWLCA Coaches Poll, which was also released this week.

Navy (18-3, 6-0 PL) was ranked in the deBeer Media Poll three times this season, coming in at No. 18 on April 30 and No. 19 on May 7, the final poll of the regular season. The Mids were ranked No. 20 in the final 2011 poll and No. 19 in 2010.

Head coach Cindy Timchal led Navy to a school record 18 wins in 2012. After dropping its season opener, Navy won 10 straight games before falling to eventual national champion Northwestern. The Mids then rattled off an eight-game winning streak before falling to No. 5 North Carolina, 14-7, in the NCAA First Round.

Navy captured a third straight Patriot League Championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the third consecutive year. The Mids also were a perfect 6-0 in conference en route to earning their first outright regular season title.

Additionally, two Midshipmen advanced past the first stage of tryouts for the Women's National Team. US Lacrosse recently announced that Loren Generi (Bayport, N.Y.) and Kelsey Henshaw (Chester, Md.) are among the 38 players who have advanced to the second round of tryouts for the 2012-14 Women's National Team.

Last weekend 143 players from 34 schools participated in the open tryouts for the Women's National Team and played several games in front of head coach Ricky Fried and the women's national team selection committee.

The second round of tryouts will be held July 27-29 at UMBC. The 38 players from the first round will be joined by the returning members of the U.S. Women's National Team and any other players waived from the first round of tryouts.

Following the second round of tryouts, 36-40 players will be selected. This group will also serve as the training team pool for the U.S. women's national team which will defend its 2009 gold medal at the 2013 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Cup in Oshawa, Canada. The final 18-player World Cup roster will be announced in February 2013.

Generi, the Patriot League Rookie of the Year, led Navy with a school record 118 draw controls and ranked third on the team with 59 points (52 goals, 7 assists). Henshaw appeared in 15 games and scored her first career goal at Northwestern.
