CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - The Navy women's lacrosse team placed 11 student-athletes on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, the conference office recently announced. Navy (18-3, 6-0 PL) won its third straight Patriot League Championship in 2012 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the third straight year. Navy finished the season ranked No. 19 in the deBeer Media Poll and was No. 14 in the national RPI rankings.

Student-athletes needed a grade-point average of at least 3.20 during the 2012 spring semester to earn a spot on the academic honor roll.

Recent graduate and 2012 team captain Kierstin King (Upperco, Md.) earned her third career nod to the academic honor roll after posting a 3.63 GPA in the spring semester. Junior attacker Kathy Young (Berwyn, Pa.) also became a three-time honoree after posting a 3.35 GPA. Both King and Young were named to the All-Patriot League First Team in 2012.

King started all 21 games for Navy and led the team with 36 ground balls and 21 caused turnovers. Young started 21 games and led Navy with 58 goals and ranked second with 62 points.

A third three-time honoree was junior defender Emily Mellin (Sherwood Forest, Md.). Mellin started 19 games for Navy this past spring and will serve as the Commander of the 5th Company at the Naval Academy during the fall 2012 semester.

Sophomore Jill Coughlin (Annapolis, Md.) earned a second straight nomination to the honor roll after earning a 3.80 GPA as an oceanography (honors) major. Coughlin made 20 starts in 2012 and tallied 28 points.

First-time honorees included recent graduates Abby Ellis (Ooltewah, Tenn.) and Danielle Vivonetto (Rocky Point, N.Y.), as well as sophomores Sam Dennis (Annapolis, Md.), S.A. Fogleman (Kingston, R.I.) and Molly Hamilton (New Albany, Ohio).

First-year players Candace Ross (St. Leonard, Md.) and Jordan Snyder (Bel Air, Md.) rounded out Navy's contingent on the honor roll with Snyder earning a team-best 3.81 GPA in the spring semester.

Additionally in 2012, junior Jasmine DePompeo (Sayville, N.Y.) became Navy's first Academic All-America selection by earning third-team honors. DePompeo, Young, King and Coughlin were also named to the Patriot League Women's Lacrosse All-Academic team.
