ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Three recent U.S. Naval Academy graduates have been chosen to the 2010 Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Academic Honor Roll. Shelly Moeller, Maggie Morton and Mary Ruttum were honored among 151 student-athletes from 62 different institutions.
Moeller, also a former standout soccer player, started 12 games as a defender in 2010 in her first season of collegiate lacrosse. Moeller also received the distinction of being selected to the 2009 Women's Soccer ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Third Team. Moeller graduated with honors with an oceanography degree.
Morton, a midfielder, was a four-year member of the lacrosse team at Navy, joining the squad in 2007 when the program was still at the club level. Morton graduated in the spring with a degree in international relations.
Ruttum started all 21 games for Navy in 2010, accumulating 21 goals and 16 assists and graduated as the second leading scorer in program history (134 points). Ruttum was also selected to the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll as a junior and graduated with honors with a degree in systems engineering.
In just its third year as a varsity program, Navy posted a 17-5 record in 2010 and won the Patriot League Championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.
