Timchal Named to Inaugural IWLCA Hall of Fame Class
ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association announced its inaugural Hall of Fame class and Navy head coach Cindy Timchal was selected to the list. Timchal is one of six women's lacrosse head coaches to be formally enshrined on Thursday, Nov. 16 during the IWLCA Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony during the IWLCA Annual Meetings at Disney's Coronado Springs Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.
The 2017 class is comprised of Missy Foote, Tina Sloan Green, Carole Kleinfelder, Sharon Pfluger, Marge Watson, and Timchal. The class was chosen by the IWLCA's Hall of Fame committee, chaired by Princeton University head coach Chris Sailer.
Timchal's career record stands at 491-129, good for a .792 winning percentage -- the most wins among Division I coaches. Her total career wins are second only to fellow 2017 Hall of Fame inductee Pfluger, head coach of the College of New Jersey (DIII).
The legendary head coach has taken three separate programs to the NCAA tournament, as she led Northwestern (1982-90) to five post-season bids, Maryland (1991-06) to 16 bids and eight NCAA championships, and the U.S. Naval Academy to five NCAA appearances, including a run to the semi-finals in 2017 -- becoming the first Service Academy team from a women's sport to advance to the NCAA Final Four.
Timchal has collected six conference Coach of the Year awards, four in the ACC and two in the Patriot League. She has coached 13 national position Players of the Year, three Tewaaraton finalists and one winner of the award.
Timchal was inducted into the US Lacrosse National Hall of Fame in 2012.
