ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Different members of the Navy women's lacrosse program will be providing periodic updates on the happenings of the team throughout the offseason on NavySports.com(.) The women's lacrosse team, led by head coach Cindy Timchal, won its first Patriot League Championship in 2010 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. Stay current with the team by reading the Navy Women's Lacrosse Player Blog as they prepare to defend their Patriot League crown.
The third installment of the Navy Women's Lacrosse Player Blog comes from sophomore midfielder Jasmine DePompeo.
This past month has been a busy, yet productive one for Navy Women's Lacrosse! With the Annapolis autumn in full swing and our tough fall ball schedule in the rear view, we have had a chance to prove ourselves as the 2011 team and focus on what is in store for the spring. Whether we're conditioning with our awesome trainer Rett Warren or honing our skills and team chemistry during stick practices, the energy on NWL is always high; I think the team is eager for the season to get going. In the mean time, we've been keeping busy with school, family and friends, and academy responsibilities.
NWL started off November with our annual Rivalry Challenge tournament here on the yard. High school club teams from all over the country ventured to Annapolis for a fun-filled day of lacrosse on the Severn. The whole team and coaching staff worked so well together to make sure things went smoothly and everyone got the most out of the unique experience of playing on Naval Academy grounds. It was great to share our love of the game with thousands of competitive high school players- and reminisce a little bit about our own tournament memories back when we were in high school! We lucked out with weather, too- can't wait for next year!
On Veteran's Day, Toby Keith came to Alumni Hall for a special concert just for midshipmen. A bunch of girls on the team used their unique and varying skills to win a talent contest in order to get backstage passes before the concert to meet and greet with Toby himself. The concert was absolutely awesome; he put on a great show and NWL represented from the front row, naturally.
We've spent the past few Saturday afternoons cheering our Navy Football team to victory and a bowl game berth. I am so excited for NWL to take San Diego by storm where a bunch of us plan on supporting our boys at the Poinsettia Bowl on December 23. There's nothing like a trip to California with your best friends to help you unwind after final exams.
NWL is so proud of all of our firsties (seniors) who have made their service selections in the Navy and Marine Corps. All of the underclassmen look up to them tremendously and we know that they'll do great things for our country- we'll miss them!
Now, with Thanksgiving under our belts and our much-anticipated team Christmas party and Secret Santa to look forward to, we're keeping our spirits high. Only a few more months until games!
