CAMDEN COUNTY, N.J. - The Navy women's rowing team had three boats place in the top six of their respective finals on Sunday at the EAWRC Sprints in Camden County, N.J. Competing in their respective grand finals, the varsity eight and varsity four both placed sixth, while the second varsity eight placed fourth.

"It was a good morning and all in all, it was a good day," said Navy head coach Mike Hughes. "To have three boats in the finals at the Eastern Sprints is pretty good."

The varsity four got off to a good start on the Cooper River as it won its trial heat race. The varsity four topped Boston University by just over three seconds to take first, clocking a time of 7:37.5.

In the afternoon grand final, the varsity four turned in a time of 7:44.19 to take sixth in the event and sixth overall.

"The varsity four did a heck of a job in winning the trial heat against some very good boats," said Hughes.

The varsity eight finished second to Virginia in its trial heat, advancing to the grand final. In the grand final, the Mids were in the fourth position in the last 500 meters, but caught some bad luck.

"We had a twig get caught in the rudder with about 500 meters to go, so that certainly slowed us down a bit," said Hughes.

Navy finished with a time of 6:44.4, while Virginia took the top spot with a 6:14.8.

After placing third in its trial heat, the second varsity eight crew posted the highest finish of the day by any Navy boat, taking fourth in the grand final. The Mids' second varsity turned in a 6:45.8, finishing just a boat length behind third-place Northeastern (6:42.9).

The third varsity placed fifth in its trial heat and then took fifth in the petite final with a 7:35.02.

Navy's novice eight crew took sixth in its only race of the day. The Mids clocked a 7:43.7, just three seconds behind fifth-place Holy Cross.
