NORFOLK, Va. - The Navy women's rowing team began its fall 2013 schedule on Saturday with competition at the Oyster Bay Regatta. Racing on the Lafayette River versus the University of North Carolina and Old Dominion University, Navy `A' earned the victory in the Collegiate 4 event.
"We looked great out on the water today with strong efforts in both events," said head coach Mike Hughes. "It was good for us to get out and compete with other programs. Today's competition allows us to have an early gauge of where we stand as a team."
The regatta featured head racing with teams competing individually to finish the Lafayette River course in the fastest time.
In the Collegiate 8 race, Navy `A' nearly picked up the victory as the boat came just 2.3 seconds shy of UNC `A' with a final time of 17:32.3. The Tar Heels were victorious with a time of 17:30.0.
Navy's `B' boat was the fastest amongst it's `B' competition with a 18:05.4 result.
